A substance use IOP is the level of care many people need after detox or residential treatment — and often the right starting point on its own. Victory Bay's intensive outpatient rehab gives adults across New Jersey — serving all counties, from North Jersey to South Jersey — roughly nine to fifteen hours of treatment each week, with dedicated alcohol and drug tracks, group and individual therapy, relapse-prevention skills, and medication-assisted treatment coordination, all while you live at home and keep your routine.

Drug & Alcohol IOP for a Wide Range of Substances

Recovery looks different for every substance. Our clinical team builds your IOP — alcohol track, drug track, or both — around what you have been using, for how long, and your overall health, including any co-occurring mental health conditions.

  • Man in shirt and tie pouring white pills from a bottle into his open hand beside an ashtray of cigarette butts

    Alcohol

Nearly 29 million Americans ages 12 and older had alcohol use disorder in the past year (SAMHSA). Our alcohol IOP combines group therapy, individual counseling, and relapse-prevention skills, with psychiatric support and medication coordination when appropriate, so you can address alcohol use while living at home.

  • Close-up of a hand holding a small plastic baggie of white powder representing cocaine

    Opioids

An estimated 4.8 million Americans had an opioid use disorder in the past year (SAMHSA, 2024). Our drug IOP pairs structured therapy with medication-assisted treatment coordination when appropriate, so opioid recovery continues with real support after detox or residential care.

  • A person pouring blue-and-white capsules from an amber prescription bottle into their open palm

    Benzodiazepines

About 3.9 million Americans ages 12 and older misused prescription benzodiazepines in a recent year (SAMHSA). Our IOP supports recovery from benzodiazepine dependence with therapy, monitoring, and psychiatric coordination once any medically supervised taper is complete.

  • A person handcuffed behind their back as a gloved hand holds a bag of seized white powder

    Stimulants

Overdose deaths involving stimulants such as cocaine and methamphetamine have risen sharply over the past decade (CDC). Our IOP helps you manage cravings, rebuild routine, and address the depression and exhaustion that often follow stimulant use through structured group and individual work.

  • Man slumped on a couch reaching for a glass of liquor beside a bottle, cigarettes, and scattered pills, illustrating alcohol and substance abuse.

    Polysubstance Use

Nearly half of U.S. overdose deaths involve more than one drug (CDC). Recovering from both alcohol and drugs takes an individualized plan — our IOP addresses each substance and the patterns connecting them through therapy and ongoing clinical review.

  • Clinician resting a reassuring hand on a woman's shoulder during a diverse group therapy session

    Co-Occurring Disorders

About 21.5 million U.S. adults live with both a mental illness and a substance use disorder (SAMHSA). Our IOP treats both at once, with psychiatric support for depression, anxiety, and trauma woven into your substance use treatment — not handled separately.

How Our Substance Use IOP Works

Most clients attend our IOP three to five days a week, roughly nine to fifteen hours total, in either a daytime or evening track so treatment fits around work, school, or family. Each week blends group therapy, individual counseling, and relapse-prevention skill building, with separate clinical focus for alcohol and drug recovery and coordination for medication-assisted treatment when it is appropriate for opioid or alcohol use.

IOP sits between residential care and weekly outpatient. Many clients step down into it directly from our detox or residential program, moving straight into a schedule and a clinical team already in place; others begin at the IOP level when they need real structure but not a 24-hour setting. We coordinate care for clients arriving from anywhere in New Jersey — from North Jersey to South Jersey — at our Laurel Springs campus in South Jersey, and we adjust your level of care up or down as your recovery progresses.

New Jersey Substance Use IOP — Frequently Asked Questions

What is a substance use IOP?

A substance use IOP is an Intensive Outpatient Program for drug and alcohol use. It delivers about nine to fifteen hours of structured treatment each week — group therapy, individual counseling, relapse-prevention work, and medication-assisted treatment coordination — while you continue living at home. It is more intensive than weekly outpatient therapy but does not require staying overnight.

Do you offer an alcohol IOP?

Yes. Our IOP includes a dedicated alcohol track alongside our drug track. The alcohol IOP combines group and individual therapy, relapse-prevention skills, and psychiatric and medication coordination when appropriate, and it can address alcohol and other substances together when someone is recovering from more than one. Many people enter the alcohol IOP after completing a medically supervised detox.

How many hours per week is IOP?

Most intensive outpatient programs run about nine to fifteen hours a week, typically three to five sessions across the week. Victory Bay offers both daytime and evening IOP tracks so you can keep working, attend school, or care for family while you are in treatment. Your exact schedule depends on your clinical needs and is reviewed as you progress.

What is the difference between IOP, PHP, and residential treatment?

These are different levels of care. Residential treatment means living on-site with 24-hour support. A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is the most intensive outpatient level — usually around twenty or more hours a week during the day, returning home at night. An IOP is a step below PHP at roughly nine to fifteen hours a week. Many people move from residential or detox, to PHP, to IOP, to weekly outpatient as they stabilize.

Can I keep working during IOP?

For most people, yes — that is one of the main reasons IOP exists. Because treatment is part-time and offered in both daytime and evening tracks, many clients continue working, attending school, or caring for family while enrolled. During admissions we help you choose the track that fits your schedule and your recovery needs.

Does insurance cover a substance use IOP in New Jersey?

Under federal and New Jersey parity laws, most commercial health plans must cover substance use treatment, including intensive outpatient care, comparably to medical and surgical care. Coverage details and authorization requirements vary by plan, so our admissions team verifies your specific benefits before you start and explains any out-of-pocket costs in advance.

Which insurance plans does Victory Bay accept?

Victory Bay accepts Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem, and Aetna. We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid at this time. Because coverage varies by plan, our admissions team verifies your specific benefits before you start so you understand any out-of-pocket costs in advance. Call us and we will check your coverage quickly.
